The Feel Good Story

The Feel Good Story

Hi, I’m Aaron :)

I’m the owner and head trainer of Feel Good Company! I’m a personal trainer and nutrition coach with certifications from the International Sports Science Association and Precision Nutrition, respectively, and work out of a wonderful training facility called Resurgence in Port Hope, Ontario.

Truth is, I’m not a former athlete.  My background is in music, entertainment and marketing. I haven’t been a lifelong gym rat. At one point I paid for a Good Life membership for a year and didn’t go once.

I always found the gym intimidating and it was always more fun putting myself through the wringer then it was taking care of myself.

But you know, that eventually catches up to everyone, I think. At least it did for me.

I’ve struggled with mental health for a long time. I fight depression to this day and anxiety has been a real bitch for me at times. Combine that with many years of overlooking my own physical health and a few years ago the downward momentum really started to pick up steam and eventually it got away from me.

I’m grateful to be surrounded by some awesome people. My mom, Judi Sawyer, was a personal trainer at Resurgence for 15 years and has forgotten more than I’ll ever know. She brought me into the Resurgence family when I was at my lowest and we started to get to work.

Resurgence is different from any fitness space I’d ever been in. It’s intimate and warm.

Everyone is always smiling and laughing. Working hard…but always having fun. It’s comfortable and it made me think differently.

“The people in my gym are the same people I would have at my dinner table”.

Scott Jenkins is the owner of Resurgence, an encyclopedia of knowledge and the fittest man I’ve ever met. He’s also incredibly kind and generous. Between Scott and my mom, I went from actively avoiding the gym to living in it.

The mental impact was immediate. With exercise came relief. It all felt a little lighter. The momentum picked up and I started making better choices around lifestyle and nutrition and pretty soon I was feeling good. Like, really good.

It was a really liberating experience and it was clear pretty quickly that it was a wave I wanted to keep riding.

For the last few years I’ve spent my time with my head in the books, lifting a lot of iron and mentoring with my mom and Scott. Along the way, it became a passion. I fell in love with all of it. The experience and new found feelings became driving.

The goal was always just to get my head straight. I never would have guessed a few years ago I’d be writing something like this. Im the strongest I’ve never been at almost 40 and I finally feel pretty good with my shirt off. But that’s nothing compared to how I feel inside my own head. And I’m super grateful for it.

Now, this is a weird industry. Diet culture is gross. Unrealistic physical expectations can be so damaging for all us. Not to mention the potential for negative mental impact.

But I also think that it’s prime for disruption.  There’s a different way to do this and I think it’s going to be fun exploring it. Let’s create opportunities, have some fun and help ourselves and our community feel good along the way.

So that’s the story. That’s how Feel Good Company came to be.

And now? The Feel Good Community is growing and thriving. The gym is rocking with solo, pairs and group training, our bootcamps are packed and FGC clients are getting stronger, mentally and physically, by the day.

It’s a lot of fun.

The door is always open. Welcome to Feel Good Company.
